Abstract Canada is positioned to become a pertinent frontier for geothermal exploration and development in the very near future. The resource potential of high-enthalpy geothermal in western Canada is not a recent discovery. However, the challenging political and financial climate surrounding geothermal power has curtailed its development for nearly twenty years. The last comprehensive resource assessment of Canadian geothermal potential was carried out in the mid 1980’s. Since then, a sentiment of public support for renewable and clean sources of energy has emerged in Canada, and geothermal power is an opportunity to satisfy this appeal on a significant scale.
