Active high-enthalpy geothermal systems in island-arc environments have similar parameters to low-sulfidation Au- Ag epithermal paleosystems. A comparison of the two systems in terms of i) regional to local volcano-tectonic settings, ii) timing between the magmatic and hydrothermal events and duration of the hydrothermal event, iii) distance between the cooling magma body and the geothermal field (or ore deposit), iv) hydrothermal fluids and their surface expression, and v) geothermal reservoirs as against epithermal orebodies, have enabled us to formulate exploration guides for the discovery of new geothermal fields. |
