Abstract The present paper describes a 3D geological model of the Soultz EGS site at the regional scale. The objective is to build a geometrical consistent model of fault systems, based on a data synthesis of the Soultz EGS project. The first goal of the model is to help to interpret the Vertical Seismic Profiles (VSP) acquired on the site. As these profiles are not yet interpreted, this paper presents an on-going work. More generally, this type of model could be used as basis for other modeling and geothermal exploration. Two models have been built: one in the sedimentary cover and an other in the granite basement. The next step will be to join the both. In the sedimentary cover, the model is based on the interpretation of seismic profiles acquired in the 70-80’s for oil exploration. Whereas, for the granite basement, data come from the Soultz geothermal wells. The fault network in the both models shows a main direction NNE-SSW, which is in relation with the Oligocene graben tectonic. However, in the granite basement, other direction is present, which indicate that some fractures are inherited from Variscan tectonic probably and then reactivated later.
