Abstract Fouling mitigation and corrosion control are big challenges in harvesting geothermal energy. In the production well during or after flashing brine results in high pH and that in combination with high temperature causes calcium carbonate precipitation. Silica/Silicate precipitation becomes a problem when the brine gets cold in the surface equipment and the rejection well. The paper discusses new inhibitors for both calcium carbonate and silica/silicate control.
