Geothermal drilling in New Zealand has generally been done on a day rate basis but, since 1996,has been done on a meterage or basis. This is possible where there is knowledge about the expected conditions for the contractor and operator to agree to a mutually acceptable contract. If not, then a target contract, based day rate contract, can be an appropriate option. Comments on contract options are provided. The ultimate no-risk contract option for an operator is a ëno-steam, norewardí contract. A case study is provided. |
