Abstract Conventional geothermal projects are underutilized and promising. However, these projects continue to remain risky because of the need for success on the first wells drilled into a reservoir. They are also capital-intensive, requiring most of the funding up front before the project produces any revenue. Waste heat recovery applications using the geothermal technologies are available with less risk, because the heat sources can be easily quantified and accessed without drilling. This paper describes how the waste heat can be converted to electricity without any additional fossil fuel and the potential for using the conversion process.
