Abstract In this paper, we characterize the composition and flow paths of the low-temperature geothermal waters that discharge in the Manteigas–Nave de Santo António–Torre region, situated in the mountainous terrain of Serra da Estrela (Central Portugal, Iberian Massif). Geologic, geomorphic, structural, hydrogeochemical, isotopic (18O, 2H and 3H) and climatic information were used to develop a conceptual circulation model of the geothermal system. The model describes the origin of the fluids, the potential recharge sites and the depths of fluid circulation within the fractured granitic reservoir.
