Abstract The Reykjanes Geothermal Power Plant, owned by Hitaveita Sudurnesja hf (HS hf), started commercial operation in 2006. It has now 50 MW generating ability and delivers electricity to an aluminum smelter and the public market. The turbine-generator units for this plant were manufactured and supplied by Fuji Electric Systems Co., Ltd. The Reykjanes Geothermal Power Plant has some unique properties in its concept and system designs. This paper outlines briefly the resource park concept, steam-brine system, the sea water cooling system and gives some details of the construction and operation of the turbine units in the Reykjanes Geothermal Power Plant.
