Abstract There is low level of winter space heating in Lhasa, the capital of Tibet Autonomous Region. The building with space heating facilities is less than 10%. There is a lack of conventional energies such as coal, oil and gas resources in Tibet. Local people pass the winter with difficulty by using sunlight in their traditional houses. Common residents burn dung and firewood for heating. If transfer the waste thermal water from Yangbajain geothermal power plant to Lhasa, it can solve space heating for 35-60% buildings. In addition, ground source heat pump has ability to solve space heating for the rest or the whole buildings.
