| Abstract | A computer model has been used to investigatevarious options for disposal of separated water andpower station condensate from the Wairakei-Tauharasystem. In particular the effects of in-field reinjectionare compared with those produced by alternativemeans of disposal. Our modelling results show thatinfield reinjection reduces the useful life of theresource and thus compromises its sustainability. This is an important result as the policies andregulations governing geothermal utilisation withinthe Waikato region of New Zealand, which coversthe Wairakei-Tauhara geothermal system, arecurrently being reconsidered as part of a notifiedpublic process. |
