| Abstract | Subsidence at Tauhara is caused by compaction of unconsolidated sediments. The onedimensional drainage of the subsidence model of Allis does not correctly represent the pressure changes applied to shallow aquitards, as flow in the shallow aquifers is dominated by horizontal flows. An approximate mathematical model of the subsidence is presented. It is shown that parameter fits are very poorly constrained by data to date, and there may be considerably more subsidence yet to occur. |
