Abstract It was shown earlier that a simple empirical formula can be used as an equation of state (pressure-density-temperature dependence) for water and brines. Precise laboratory test data were used for verification of the suggested formula. Using this formula as a base, we derived an equation for calculating the downhole hydrostatic fluid pressure. Calculations show that in many cases the effect of high temperatures and depth on waterhrine density should be taken into account at downhole fluid pressure predictions. An example of calculations is presented.
