Abstract The development of the UNIVERSAL PRESSURE turbine was determined by the need, on the part of ENTE ELETTRICO ITALIANO (ENEL) to have a single turbine which could perform well within the pressure range of various steam inlets. The study was initiated at the beginning of the eighties, availing itself of the collaborations of ANSALDO COMPOENTI (A.C.O.) and FABRICA TURBINE E CALDATE (F.T.C.) ; a turbine size of 20 MW was selected, the design of which has been continuously subjected to improvements. An average of 4 wells is required by a unit of 20 MW, the relative gathering is modes. In the event of power plant tripping, the electrical system into which it is inserted is not compromised. According to the project, the power plant can be provided with a remote control center with no standby in any of the systems as, for example, in a gas extraction system and a single condensation/extraction pump of 100% was to be installed.
