| Abstract | The development of the technology to recover the useful energy in the hot dry rock (HDR) resource has been underway for almost 20 years. Commercialization of HDR technology will build on the experience of the hydrothermal power industry, but will include significant special considerations in regard to resource identification and development, as well as operational procedures. Additional information regarding water consumption and resource lifetime will be forthcoming in the next few years from a long term test of the world's largest and hottest HDR reservoir at Fenton Hill, NM. Results of this test should set the stage for commercial development of HDR resources. |
