| Abstract | The delineation of deep (>3000 m) reservoirs is a primary objective in the exploration of the Larderello and Mt. Amiata (Italy( geothermal fields. In the Larderello region, at the Monteverdi test site, a 3D seismic survey extended over 6.5 sq km and 5 offset well seismic profiles (WSP) were collected. Field acquisition techniques and the data processing sequence are described. Strong reflectors were detected between 1.3 and 1.45 seconds two way travel time by 3D seismic as well as accurate map of seismic structure. It was possible to establish that reflections correspond to decreases of acoustic impedance associated with fractured intervals inside metamorphic crystalline basement. A number of wells drilled after seismic surveys confirm a definite correlation between production and anomalous seismic amplitudes. |
