| Abstract | Sulfur sludge accumulates in geothermal power plant cooling tower basins during normal operation. Installing a permanent automatic vertical chamber filter press at the Geysers to dewater this sludge has reduced hazardous waste quantities and associated operating costs by two thirds. After passing through a separator tank, filtrate from the filter press is clean enough to be reinjected into the steam reservoir. This paper presents the details of the design, installation, and operation of the filter press facilities. |
