Abstract The probable existence of a superheated steam zone at depth which has been exploited since 16 years ago is described. This secures the productivity of the geothermal field at the present rate of extraction for 10 years and opens up the possibility of expanding the installed generating capacity. Above all knowing the extension of the field to the east will allow the proposed expansion. The detection of a steam zone at depth is based upon the geochemistry of the fluid discharged by well M147. Additionally high wellhead pressures are measured at the start of the discharge when the well has been shut in for a long period.
