Abstract The central depression of the Danube Basin is the greatest geothermal water reservoir in Czechoslovakia. In 1971-1984 twenty geothermal boreholes 1,200-2,800 m deep were drilled in the area. Geothermal water aquifers (Dacian Pannonian sands) in the boreholes were tested by short term, long term and hydrodynamical check measurements (Franko et al 1989). The evaluation of the resulting data gives the idea of the spatial distribution of aquifers and waters, of thermal and heat fields. It enables the evaluation of the heat energetic potential of geothermal waters.
