Abstract Educating children about geothermal energy is crucial to the future growth of the geothermal industry. The Geothermal Education Office (GEO) was founded in 1989 to provide materials and support to teachers and the geothermal communityu in educating grades K-12 about geothermal energy. GEO's goals are to: provie eay accvess to or referral to apropriate sources of geothermal information; foster teacher interest; create posters, booklets, lesson plans and other educational materials; monitor and review textbooks, encyclopedias and other educational materials distributed by educational grops to ensure inclusion of appropriate, accurate information and to encourage fair treatment of altrnative energy resources; contribute articles to industry, science and educational publications; and foster communication and cooperation among GEO, the geothermal industry, government agencies, and educational and environmental groups. Since its inception GEO has established itself in national educational networks. An article and advertisements about GEO have been published in Scholastic News which is disturb nationally, and in other national and state science teacher association publications. The Geothermal Education Office receives calls from all over the country from students, teachers and energy and education officials requesting information on geothermal energy.
