Abstract There is a slow but steady increase in the number of geothermal wells in Hungary. The rate of increase is 3-5 new well/year. In the last years technical development and the raising of efficiency cam to the front utilization of geothermal energy. Technical development is supported by the state. The main directions were: developing a pump suitable for Hungarian conditions, working out the model of sandy and karstic aquifers for simulation and prediction, and developing new chemical and methods for treating thermal water.
