Abstract The California Energy Company, Inc. (CECI) and Mission Power Engineering Co. (MPE) formed a team in 1987 to develop Units 2 through 9 of the COSO Project. Each of these units are 30 MW nominal, dual flash design. They are located on four sites in the COSO KGRA in Central California. This paper describes the Project and progress to date on thee 8 units. The wells at specific sites have developed with enthalpies ranging from 420 to 1000 Btu/Lb. The same basic hardware, including the turbine generator sets, have been used for this full range of conditions in order to allow the very rapid development of this resource area. The generating plants of this paper were started in March 1988. As of May 1989, four units are in commercial operation and the remaining four are in construction.
