| Abstract | The testing and selection process of a new, safer, more efficient and cost effective way of abating H2S emissions during well drilling operations at the Geysers is presented in this paper. In 1985, GEO Operator Corporation (GEOOC) commenced with a research program to study the present H2S abatement method used and investigate the feasibility of other abatement technologies. As a result of this research, GEOOC developed a new abatement process using a ferrous sulfate solution with aqueous sodium hydroxide. This technology has been used on over a dozen well drillings and has resulted in a safer, more efficient and cost effective abatement program. |
