| Abstract | The first geothermal Power Unit at Coso Hot Springs was built using a fast track design/construction concept. The time value of money to bring the project to full operation in the shortest time possible was an important consideration in making this decision. Of paramount importance was the commercial success of this first Coso project, in order to lay the groundwork of all future development at this location. California Energy Company, Inc., as the managing partner of the developer, selected the tam of Guy F. Atkinson Company, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries America, Inc. and Valley Engineers, Inc. to bring this project form conceptual design to power generation. This paper limits its scope to address the design and construction considerations of the two phase flow gathering system (first of its kind in the USA), the brine and noncondensable gas injection system and the steam vent facilities. |
