Abstract The La Primavera geothermal field, located 15 km from Guadalajara, is within a quaternary volcanic caldera, into eh western portion of Mexican Volcanic Belt and near of confluence of three major active structures. The Comision Federal de Electridad( CFE) has drilled 11 geothermal wells, whose depths go form 668 to 2,986 m; at this moment, the drilling of twelfth well is suspended to 1,386 m. Only one of these 11 wells was failed due its low temperature, and CFE has decided to install two geothermoelectrical units of 5 MW each, which will e in operation by January 1990; these units will use the vapor from wells PR-1, PR-8 and PR-9. Total potential of geothermal reservoir is here estimated in 100 MW, being in progress an international agreement with United nations for exploration of the near geothermal zone Las Planillas.
