| Abstract | The Deschutes National Forest has had the unique opportunity to contemplate management of a new resource in Central Oregon--Geothermal--from its inception. Unlike other resource programs the Forest Service manages, where perceptions, opinions and biases are well established in the community, geothermal was an almost unknown entity in this area a year ago. Thorugh training, public awareness, and new partnerships, this is changing. Significant progress is being made which illustrates that mineral development can be successfully planned and managed by the Forest Service in Central Oregon. |
