Abstract In accordance with the characteristics of the geothermal resources in China, this paper presents an application of absorption heat pumps by using geothermal energy to heating in rural area, where electric power and fossil fuel are scarce, and analizes the advantages of various heating schemes. This paper discusses working principle of a new absorption heat pump driven by low-temperature heat resource, and presents some performance coefficients of the heat pump, the calculation of an absorption heat pump using amonia-water mixture shows high coefficient of performance.
