Abstract Cerro Prieto gained during the first year of operation of the Cerro Prieto I central power station units 1 & 2 of 37.5 MW each, was a significant help on the development of the field. The continuous operation of these plants was an example that shows that geothermal energy can be economically used. Until now the turbines of units 1 &2 have fourteen years running with corrosion problems. In fact several units were constructed by Commission Federal de Electricdad to increase plants output to 620 MW which is actually the installed capacity in the Cerro Prieto geothermal field.
