Abstract Unocal Geothermal Division's 10 Megawatt Geothermal power generating facility has been in operation since July, 1982. The geothermal resource production facility is a dual flash, crystallizer clarifier process. Precipitated solids must be continuously removed from the system in order to maintain proper operation. Original equipment installed to remove precipitated solids was found to be unsuited for long term, commercial service. Various methods of removal and dewatering of the precipitated solids were tested. The Schneider Horizontal Plate Filter was chose as the most attractive alternative, and was installed at the geothermal facility in December 1985. The filter has been adapted to geothermal service and is now an economical and reliable method of solids removal and dewatering. Work is continuing with various aspects of the filter to further enhance the filter operation.
