Abstract The Pacifc island nations and territories of Kermadec, Tonga, American and Western Samoa, Fiji, Vanuatu, and the Santa Cruz Islands lie along a southwestern portion of the tectonically active Pacific "Ring of Fire" and form volcanic island arcs which have been active from the early Tertiary. Geothermal resources are associated with many of these volcanoes. Development of these resources could provide ideal additions to the energy sources of these small countries within the framework of their island economies.
