| Abstract | Geothermal resources suitable for electrical power generation are frequently located in remote areas, away from electrical demand centers. This situation requires the development of electrical transmission lines of varying length to connect new projects with interconnecting or purchasing utilities. Successful acquisition of right of way requires that developers recognize, assess, and mitigate the potential adverse impacts created by the proposed transmission lines. Federal, state, and local laws require interpretation and compliance on a case by case basis. Three case studies are presented that demonstrate that the timing and effort required for transmission access can vary substantially according to project conditions. |
