| Abstract | IN the early stages of geothermal power development in the Philippines, it had always been assumed that a geothermal power plant is good only for base load application. Against this entrenched belief, Tongonan I, a 112.5 MW geothermal power plant on the island of Leyte in the Philippines, was commissioned. It was no only intended to be a variable load plant but also it is the only major electricity source on the island. This paper discusses the first 2 years of operation of Tongonan I. It reports the successful operation of this plant. Likewise, the difficulties encountered in the operation are stated. |
