Abstract Conceiving and subsequently designing and constructing geothermal power plants and (or) associated heat generating facilities is complex because of the multitude of technologies and legalities involved. The number of active participants in the majority of projects is relatively large and interfaces are complicated. This paper deals with an outline of the problem areas, in particular in the Balance of Plant area. How to subdivide the relevant contracts to obtain the required optimized division and organization of work in conjunction with influence on execution and responsibility/liability is another item for consideration. Balance of Plant contractors can make a major contribution. Funding projects through the route of "industrial real estate" appears to be a breakthrough in realizing these industrial facilities.
