| Abstract |
A survey was conducted by Waikato Regional Council in the period from December 2001 to February 2002 to determine the numbers of visitors from domestic and international sources visiting geothermal attractions in the Waikato Region. It was found that approximately 2 million people visit geothermal attractions in the Waikato Region each year, with 1.2 million of those being local and 800,000 being overseas visitors. Bathing is the greatest attraction, but nature tourism and technology-related sites are also particularly important. |
