Abstract Financed by the French Ministry of Industry and Research and the Ministry of Foreign Relations, the BRGM in 1982-1983 carried out a prefeasibility study on the Soufriere , Wotton Waven and Boiling Lake prospects on the island of Dominica. The first stage of the study consisted of volcanologic, geochemical and geophysical studies (gravimetric and magnetotelluric). Combines with geochemical and economic criteria, the results of such studies have led to the selection of Wotton Waven as a zone of priority interest (existence of 230° geothermal reservoir, proximity to the capital city of Roseau, easy access to the electricity network). Heavy geophysical methods were used in this zone (rectangle array and LFMT). Results suggest the existence of a geothermal field displaying many similarities to high enthalpy fields located in the same geodynamic setting elsewhere in the world. Two potential zones for reconnaissance drilling are selected: 1) Wotton Waven Lodge 2) Fond Carni.
