| Abstract | The products of Quaternary volcanism are widely distributed throughout the Southern Philippines and represent a potentially large geothermal energy resource base. Geothermal prospects with the greatest resource potential occur in Central Mindanao and eastern Zamboanga and are related to mature arc systems showing either current, or recently active, subduction, mantle earthquakes and volcanism. The Pacific Cordillera along the eat coat of Mindanao is considered to have limited geothermal potential due to the youth of the Philippines Trench subduction system in the region. |
