Abstract The storage of water bone heat in unlined rock caverns is a technique which is judged today to offer economical and technical advantages when applied on a large scale. In order to study the water rock interactions at elevated temperatures (50 to 200°C), laboratory test runs have been carried out. Five rock types (alkali-granite, granite, granodiorite, gabbro and sedimentary gneiss) have been tested for their tendency to undergo ion dissolution. The final concentration of elements in solution depends on reaction temperatures, initial water composition and rock material. Multi variate calculation methods were applies to correlate the composition of the solution and the reaction temperature.
