Abstract The use of chemical geothermometry in the exploration and development of geothermal resources is summarized. It is demonstrated how the total compositions of water and steam can be sued to expand and improve geothermometry interpretation involving both prediction of subsurface temperatures and assessment of the characteristics of drilled fields. It is depicted in what way mixing and boiling processes are partial equilibration cause systematic difference between the various geothermometers.
