Abstract Several studies were carried out at Cerro Prieto between the last part of 1982 and early 1984. The results of most of these studies have not been published. Exploration and production wells were drilled, the geologic model was updated, additional geophysical studies were made, and the geochemical monitoring of the reservoir has continued. Drilling muds, additives and cements were improved. Well M-112 was drilled down to 3621m (11,876 ft). Well test and reservoir simulation studies were performed. The construction on the new power plant Cerro Prieto II and III continued. The direct use of geothermal fluids began. The construction of evaporation and crystallization ponds for the disposal of geothermal brines and the production of potassium chloride continues. Tests on experimental H2S abatement equipment ere carried out. The continuation of exploratory drilling at Cerro Prieto and Mexicalli Valley has been planned, as well as a regional geohydrogeologcial survey of the area and the geophysical and geochemical monitoring of the field.
