| Abstract | The thermodynamic basis for the use of energy is presented. Energy is shown to be a powerful tool in the assessment of the performance of geothermal power plants regardless of the type of energy conversion system employed. A methodology is presented to permit the use of energy analysis in a systematic fashion. The method is illustrated with three detailed examples using a dry stream, a double flash, and a binary plant. Overall Second Law efficiencies. are calculated for several actual geothermal plants in various countries. |
