| Abstract | This report discusses design parameters used in the rating of the brine hydrocarbon heat exchangers for the Heber Geothermal Binary Demonstration Power Plant. Operation in the supercritical vapor range with the hydrocarbon working fluid requires a stepwise rating procedure rather than the conventional procedure using terminal conditions only as used for heat exchangers handling single phase (noncritical) fluids. The paper also discusses the important factors bearing on material selection of the characteristics of various Imperial Valley KGRA brines, the metallurgical requirements for the Heber brine exchangers, and evaluation of service and test data pertaining to different material groups, and the bases for final material selection. |
