| Abstract | Reliability of thermal packers has been an eternal problem at temperatures beyond the 149-177C (300-350°F) level. High temperature packer elastomeric compounds were developed by L'Garde, Inc. for 260C (500F) environments under sponsorship of the U.S. Department of Energy in 1976 to 1979. Compounds based on four polymer systems were developed which exceed the contract requirements. The Y267 EPDM compound, particularly, has generated interest because of its good performance, economic pricing of constituents and good processablity. |
