| Abstract |
This report traces the development of the geothermal resources of the Azores from the inception of the first exploration project in 1976 to the present. The exploration of the resources has been inextricably bound to the Azoreans conflict with the mainland government regarding political autonomy and economic independence. This work is part of a NATO-CCMS study on an "Integrated Regional Policy for the Development of Geothermal Resources of the Azores", and as such includes political and socioeconomic factors which contribute to, impede, and are affected by its development. |
