Abstract This paper provides a brief introduction to analysis of economic feasibility for geothermal direct use projects. It starts by defining the two fold nature of economic feasibility before introducing the concepts (cost comparison and internal rate of return) needed to perform the analysis. It then makes use of a hypothetical geothermal space heating system to provide a concrete example of how to work through the analysis. It also provides a flow diagram to outline the procedure.
