Abstract The geothermal resource of southern Idaho is large - perhaps the larges of any state. However, most of the energy in hydrothermal convection systems is at temperatures below 150°C, and no system with temperatures above 171°C have been found. Geological, geochemical, and geophysical data indicate several areas that are particularly promising for the occurrence of high temperature systems. These include the margins of the Snake River Plain, the Weiser area, Island Park and the Blackfoot lava field.
