Abstract A geothermal gradient map is needed in order to determine the hot dry rock (HDR) geothermal resource of the United States. Based on published and unpublished data (including new measurements) the HDR program will produce updated gradient maps annually, to be used as a "tool" for resource evaluation and exploration. The 1980 version of this map will be presented in a poster session at this meeting.
