Abstract A simple method of one dimensional Magnetotelluric (MT) modeling analysis was developed by F.X. Bostick. We present a similar model. The analysis uses a two layer one dimensional model to locally approximate the apparent resistivity curve. A comparison of the modeled thusly generated is carried out by application to examples of computer generated layered models. The two versions of the model, slope and phase, are compared. It is shown that when noise is present in the data, the phase model is superior.
