| Abstract | Government initiatives affecting commercialization of the geopressurized-geothermal resource are in numerous respects different from initiatives which affect commercialization of other geothermal resources; these differences arise largely because of the great depth and the methane component of the geopressured-geothermal resource. The following paper discusses aspects of the Geothermal Loan Guaranty Program, DGE's well drilling program and the 1978 energy legislation which have an impact on geopressured-geothermal commercialization. The presence in one geological space of a methane and geothermal resource gives rise to, particularly, tax ambiguities which are examined; the ERA's rule exempting geopressured methane fired boilers from coal conversion is also analyzed. |
