Abstract With the installation of a 250 kw geothermal packaged "monoblock" in 1978, the Republic of Indonesia became the fourteenth country in the world to use geothermal energy for the generation of electricity. Pertamina's Geothermal Division has reported (May 1979) that Indonesia's presently estimated geothermal potential is equivalent to at least 8-10,000 MW based on available information and that 300-350 MW will be online by 1992. Assuming 666kwh = 1 Bb1, 350 MW operating for 35 years represents the equivalent of about 340 million barrels of oil.
