| Abstract | The Madison Formation is a deep limestone layer underlying parts of Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota and South Dakota. This formation has long been considered a possible geothermal reservoir. Geothermal direct use of the Madison has a number of associated problems. One of the most important is the expenses of drilling deep wells. The use of petroleum wells for geothermal supply should not be ignored. The economics of several oil well use alternatives were examines and the results appear encouraging. |
