Abstract New seismic methods for exploration for geothermal energy are presently available to the explorationist. Crustal-scale refraction using industrial blasting as a source is one method of interest. Measurement of the in-situ rock properties such as Poisson's Ratio, and attenuation in the vicinity of the Hawaiian geothermal prospect has been complete. Measurement and location of the continuous seismic emissions of a geothermal system is now possible. The trend of seismic properties of a commercial geothermal reservoir which uniquely distinguish the deposit from its surroundings.
